Promotional Art

Few concept sketches of protagonist & antagonist combined.

Gave it a wee quick sketch if these positions would work but somehow, it doesn't feel right and not really a cool scene to draw as well (no inspiration).

Antagonist vs Protagonist

Finally, decent poses for both of these characters (this time, i think i got the proportion and the view of these characters)

Second stage - putting weapons on

Third stage - finally time to paint!

Continuing

Then the weapon - finishing touch

And bit of background painting to show where they might be

Almost forgot to put bit of shadow to give more 3D/dynamic view.

Media tests & Practices

Media practice - rather than painting in Photoshop or Black Ink, since I haven't done oil or acrylic painting quite some time, I've given a try of oil painting to know the brush marks and differences of painting in wooden board & digital canvas.

Quick sketches

Antagonist

Mood board for antagonist character, mainly focused on Balrog from Lord of the Ring and Hades (Greek god) from different art styles.I thought antagonist (I assume a character with bad intention) need to be powerful and 'badass'.

Balrog - Lord of the Ring
I just had to draw this awesome character from Lord of the Ring, Balrog, which essentially became my main research for the Antagonist character I will be painting later.

Zbrush practice - simple modelling (inspired by Balrog model) to know which position will be good to draw.

Quick sketch and painting of antagonist model - to understand what it would look and what kind of colour would be suitable when I will be doing the final version.

After finishing a Balrog themed painting, I've moved on to do another painting of antagonist with different theme with it. Hades was another choice for the character and started painting concept ideas of Hades model including his weapon.

More quick paintings of antagonist model with Hades theme.

Protagonist

Mood board for protagonist character, mainly focused on League of Legend or Dota 2 but also including some of specific works from artists such as Ashley Wood & Bob Rafei.

Picture of myself in different positions to understand the positions and scales of the character I will be drawing. These

Drawings of me in Front, Side & Behind view.

Continue painting on Photoshop including some of weapon idea as well (since environment/background isn't a concern, black and white is enough to pop out the character)

No.1.5 Character design - due to weak sketch line, I've stopped working on it for now and moved on to do quick drawings.

No.2 Character Idea - simple sketch. One of the quick drawing I've done and it looks decent enough. I'm quite satisfied with the position of the character and somewhat resemble to the original painting of mine.

Worked little bit further (painting & shading) to see how it could be improved from the previous version. [colour pink wasn't a bad choice i think]

After all these practices, I thought I was behind the schedule and had to move on to the main project.

Protagonist

 Simple Line work of Protagonist

Painted version (but I felt texture of this character was lacking)

So I did little bit of texturing and somewhat looking better than before.

This time, adding few more features, such as the weapon for this character.

Protagonist Shading - tried to show that left and the right one are different but even I can't really see the difference, but left painting is with no saturation and the right one is with -100 saturation with less lighting to make it more Black & White style.

Finally, 2 poses for Protagonist. Bits of yellow shade to give more dynamic effect.
